A 3D television is a television set that employs techniques of 3D presentation, like that of multi-view capture, stereoscopic capture, or 2D-plus-depth, and a 3D display, which is a special viewing device to project a television program into a realistic three-dimensional field. 3D television has already been used since before 1950s, although it was not yet widely used because our technologies were not yet that stable then.

3D TVs are already being made available in the market since most are using only 3D for films. These type of TVs are high-end. 3D TV sets are those that operate in 3D mode using one of numerous display technologies to create stereoscopic image.

There are five of the best 3D TVs in the consumer industry available. The best 3D tv on the list is the LG Infinia 47LW6500, its 3D type is passive. It has a very good depth, and it does not appear to sacrifice detail. But for this type of 3D TV, darker scenes appearing in the screen may look a bit bright. Second is the Samsung UN46D8000, its 3D type is active. It has good depth, though it is slightly subtler than Infinia 47LW6500. This set improves at creating 3D effects without compromising contrast or color. Dark scenes looked very splendid for this TV set. Third on the list would be LF Infinia 50PZ950 which is a fine example of this year’s improved active-shutter 3D sets. The difference between foreground and background was pronounced but not overdone. This TV set skewed slightly bright in darker scenes. Next on the list is Sony’s active 3D Bravia 46HX820 which also shows good depth. In various instances, it picked up 3D details  which most sets can’t. the other sets missed entirely. Details like smudges on the windshield were more visible, giving the scene depth that many other TVs did not. Compared to the top 4, Vizio XVT3D650SV has slightly less depth, and subtle foreground effects looked less crisp on this set than they did in the 4 prior TV sets. But it still looked good, and considering what the buyer gets, it is definitely a bargain. If the buyer dreams of creating a cinematic 3D experience in a large living room but is on a very low budget, this TV set is the right one.
